Brief

A group of 16 households wanted their own homes, a shared common house with a kitchen, and to keep as many of the existing trees as they could.

Site

Three acres of second-growth forest near the ferry, with wet winters and mild summers.

Approach

Homes are set in two short terraces along a pedestrian lane, with cars kept at the edge. The common house sits where the lane widens. Walls and floors are cross-laminated timber, clad in cedar. Deep porches face the lane, so neighbors meet on the way home.

Outcome

On site. Completion expected in 2027.
